Happiness is making your own jewelry! Not only you get to wear a new piece but you can also show off to your friends that you made them yourself. I love jewelry making and wearing it makes me happy to the core. I’ve been playing with air dry clay for various projects and I should say making a necklace out of it is pretty exciting. For this, air dry clay necklace, I decided to go not for a single pendant but dual pendants to create a unique look and this was a brilliant idea like a stacked necklace.
Finding easy mediums for your jewelry like air dry clay is one of the best options when you don’t have a kiln or oven. Just wait until mother nature does her duty in drying this clay, and you’re done!!

Roll out a ball of air dry clay on your work surface. Make sure it is a thick layer of least half a centimeter. Remember if you roll it very thin, your pendant is going to be a little bent once it dries depending on your clay and may become breakable sooner.
Time to use our cookie cutters! Once you’ve rolled the clay thick enough, take the cookie cutters and cut different shapes. As you can guess, I choose the star and heart shaped cutters for my air dry clay necklace.
Take a toothpick and poke holes for inserting the jump rings. I made a simple design using the toothpick.
Now comes the drying part. You can rest while it dries! I let my air dry clay sit for at least 24 hours. Whatever your clay is, read the instructions and let it dry accordingly.
Once it dries, take the nail polish and paint it as you desire. Maybe try a single color, or go for multi-color similar to mine, oh yes, a geometric design would be nice. Therefore, get creative!
Apply a top coat. No matter what paint you’re using, either nail polish or acrylic paints, don’t forget to apply a topcoat! This gives your pendant not only shiny look but also protects the paint from chipping over time.
Finally, it’s time to put your air dry clay necklace together! Measure and cut the chain using jewelry pliers to the length you want it to be. Take 2 jump rings, open it using pliers and connect it through the holes of your first pendant to the end of the chain. This is the outer heart pendant!!
To connect the second innermost star pendant, measure at least 2 inches from the start of the outer pendant and connect the star pendant to the chain.
And ha, you’re done!!

Hence, taking advantage of this long air dry clay necklace, I avoided wasting the extra effort to connect the lobster claw and jump ring. It slips right into my neck and sits perfectly on the chest.
How to wear you ask!?
This should fit casual, modern, or any in between. This jewelry suits with my all-black outfits (oh, I love wearing all- black, I think I look a bit slimmer :D) and the color and geometric design really stand out.
Change the colors of the geometric patterns in this necklace matching your purse/wallet/handbag and wear a contrasting outfit. And rock it!
